Friday, November 7 we're going to meet at my place (1526 Autumn Ridge Drive) to watch Ben Stein's movie "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed". The movie is about why the theory evolution is so prevalent in our schools and the intelligent design theory is ostracized. You can go to to http://www.expelledthemovie.com/ for a lot more information. It hasn't been rated, but Scott and I plan to watch it beforehand to see if it is appropriate for kids.
This is my normal "Chick Flicks" night, so there will be a few new faces there. We usually bring an appetizer or dessert dish; if the weather is nice we'll show the movie outside, so bring lawn chairs or blankets. I'll try to have the fireplace going. Hope everyone can make it!

Halloween Party
Katie and Corey Shaffer are going to host a Halloween party at their house. It will be, of course, Oct. 31. We'll meet at their house at 7:00 p.m. Katie mentioned that we can take the kids to Lakebottom Park to go trick or treating. She said they'll be grilling out, too, and asked that everybody bring a bag of candy and whatever lawn chairs you can muster! This will be a joint Warriors/Choir/Monday Night Bible Study event -- hope you all can make it. It should be a blast!

two things...
These aren't official Warriors events, just information I thought I'd pass along.
September 27 is Smithsonian Museum Day; free admission for anyone printing out the card on their website and a guest. The High Museum in Atlanta is free, as is the fine arts museum in Auburn, AL. The site is http://microsite.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/about.html.
Building on Faith is a Habitat for Humanity project. Several area churches, ours included, are coming together to build a home. Construction is planned for Fridays and Saturdays, now through October 11. You don't have to have any experience -- they need people to be gofers and to bring the workers water and snacks, too. Contact Katie Stinar at ktstinar@yahoo.com for more info. You can register as a volunteer at www.columbusareahabitat.volunteerhub.com.

Chinese Night Hosted by the Warriors
Our fellow Warrior and three-time Olympian Daryl Szarenski is the speaker for the Redeemer fellowship night Friday, September 26. The Warriors have been asked to provide the food for the evening, so we're bringing our favorite take-out! Of course, if you have a great homemade Chinese dish, you're welcome to bring it. The tentative time is 6:30, but that's not firm yet. PLEASE let me know if you're bringing a dish -- I need to know what to supplement. (And we already have the fortune cookies, so no easy outs!)
Buy Your Butt!
If you want a Boston butt from Mike and Ed's, the last day to order is next Sunday, the 14th. They are $15, 2-3 lbs, and freeze well. The pick up day is Friday, Sept. 26 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. They'll be hot, so you may want to bring a cooler.
This fundraiser is to support our evangelism conference on October 4 (from 9-2). Lutheran Hour Ministries is coming down to make the presentation, so it really should be great! It is free, and so is the lunch. I'm trying to work out a babysitter -- I'll keep you posted on that. If you're coming, please RSVP with me, Mariann Turner, or Ritva Wisenall.

E-mail addresses
The best way for me to stay in touch with everybody is by e-mail. I hate, hate, hate phones. So, if you can, take a second and e-mail me so I can have your address, okay? I'm at m_vanhoveln@hotmail.com or squarepeg@knology.net. You have my everlasting gratitude.
September 20 -- Six Flags!
Who doesn't want to go to Six Flags -- for free? All Army personnel and dependents (up to 3, I think) get in free on September 20. We're going to meet in the parking lot of the church at 8 a.m. and head on up, caravan style. Please let me know if you're coming. E-mail me at squarepeg@knology.net or call me at 706-221-6067 or 785-210-5034. Pastor Eric and Jen are planning on going, so if you'd like to get to know them better -- and really, where can you get to know someone better than on the Goliath -- join us!
